The electric sedan, known as the SU7, is touted to offer performance on par with the Porsche Taycan Turbo.

BY HEIRUL KAMEL DECEMBER 27, 2023

Xiaomi EV, the automotive arm of Xiaomi, will host a launch on 28 December 2023 to showcase its first ever electric vehicle (EV), which is officially known as the SU7. The event will be held online via the brand‘s official social media channels on Facebook, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter).

According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, “SU” stands for “Speed Ultra” and the company’s upcoming SU7 EV is touted to be a “performance beast”. While no specifications were provided, the car is promised to be on par with the likes of the Porsche Taycan Turbo. Its advanced technologies and ecosystem, on the other hand, are said to be inspired by those offered in cars such as the Tesla Model S.

Lei Jun also noted that the Xiaomi SU7 is in “trial production” and is expected to hit the domestic market “in a few months”, likely in China first. No pricing has been confirmed just yet, but the Xiaomi CEO promises that it will exceed expectations. More information regarding the EV and the technology involved in its manufacturing will be revealed during the launch tomorrow, he added.

Meanwhile, unofficial sources are claiming that the Xiaomi SU7 will feature 73.6kWh and 101kWh batteries provided by fellow Chinese manufacturers BYD and CATL. The former is said to offer CLTC ranges of 628km and 668km depending on powertrain choice, whereas the latter goes up to 750km and 800km.

Apart from that, the car will allegedly measure at 4,997mm in length, 1,963mm in width, between 1,440mm and 1,455mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. Weight-wise, the 73.6kWh trim is claimed to come in at 579kg while the 101kWh variant is at 645.8kg.

We’ll only know if these leaked specifications are accurate or not once the Xiaomi SU7 is officially unveiled. Those interested can tune in to the online launch event tomorrow at 2pm local time via the brand’s official social media channels mentioned earlier.
