The new animated version of Sonic The Hedgehog will get a redesign, after the dreadful reception of the movie’s first trailer, the film’s director has confirmed.

The first clip arrived this week, though fans had already called out the character’s strangely human legs on initial posters released earlier this year.

Then following the trailer, Sonic’s weirdly human teeth went viral.

Now director Jeff Fowler has said that changes to the character’s appearance are ‘going to happen’ between now and the movie’s release date in November.

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism,” he tweeted.

“The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be…”

He added the hashtag ‘#Gottafixfast’, which is probably a bit of an understatement.

The outcry came this week, with fans flocking to Twitter to express their consternation at the design of the iconic video game hedgehog.

Per the official synopsis:

“Tom Wachowski (Westworld star James Marsden), a San Francisco Police Department officer-turned-newly appointed Sheriff of Green Hills, Montana, journeys from Green Hills to San Francisco to assist Sonic (an anthropomorphic extraterrestrial blue hedgehog who can run at incredible speeds) in evading capture by the government, collecting his rings, and defeating the insane scientist Dr. Ivo ‘Eggman’ Robotnik (Jim Carrey).”

Sonic will be voiced by Ben Schwartz – Jean-Ralphio from Parks & Recreation – with Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally, and Neal McDonough also starring.
