The Yutu-2 began exploring the Moon as part of its Chang’e-4 lunar mission back in 2019. During its expedition, it’s discovered what looked like a ‘gel-like’ substance on the bottom of an impact crater, which ended up being rocks. The rover also came across a fascinating ‘shard’, which also turned out to be another rock.

So far, it’s not really uncovered anything other than rocks. However, could this new mystery on the Moon’s horizon lead to an incredible discovery? Oh, ye have little faith.

Andrew Jones, a journalist tracking China’s space programme, SpaceNews and Space.com, shared a series of tweets regarding Yutu-2 and the strange cube in the distance.

‘Ah. We have an update from Yutu-2 on the lunar far side, including an image of a cubic shape on the northern horizon ~80m away from the rover in Von Kármán crater. Referred to as “神秘小屋” (‘mystery house’), the next 2-3 lunar days will be spent getting closer to check it out,’ he wrote.
