UEFA for threatening to strip the UK of Euro 2020 final unless 2,500 foreign VIPs are spared quarantine to attend the game at Wembley

European footballing body was hammered by MPs today for its 'deeply irresponsible' threat to move the Euro 2020 final out of the UK unless its VIPs are allowed to skip Covid quarantine.

Uefa has threatened to move the prestige game and the two semi-finals from Wembley to Budapest unless some 2,500 bigwigs are given preferential treatment that would allow them to jet in to attend.

And ministers are understood to be looking at ways to accommodate the extraordinary demand ahead of the game on July 11.

It prompted a ferocious backlash this morning, coming just days after Freedom Day was postponed for four weeks due to a surge in Indian variant cases.

Britons are also banned from taking foreign holidays in all but a handful of countries without quarantining, for fear of bringing more of the virus into the country.

Mr Johnson admitted today that the Government would speak to Uefa and 'see if we can make some sensible accommodations, but the priority obviously has to be public health'.

  • Singapore and Hong Kong tightened borders for more than year
  • Restrictions extended while larger economies begin to reopen

BLOOMBERG) - Singapore and Hong Kong, among the world's most open economies, have practically shut their doors for more than a year to keep Covid-19 in check. But as the United States and Europe emerge from the pandemic, the cities' businesses and expatriates are starting to question whether they have been too slow to reopen.

At stake are their reputations as top business and finance hubs in Asia, with Singapore's reach stretching from India to Australia and Hong Kong as the gateway to mainland China. Tighter borders and quarantines, along with sustained local lockdowns, are taking a toll.

2,500 potential virus carriers. Might as well let those self-entitled dimwits in and spread the love. :smirk:
