IPOH: The driver of an Audi R7 was killed while a passenger sustained severe injuries when the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident at KM179 of the North South Expressway near Kerian.

Muhammad Aiman Mazman, 26, from Taman Setia in Gombak, was killed on the spot while his friend, Muhamad Faris Shohaimi, 23 from Sungai Petani, Kedah, suffered serious injuries.

Kerian district police chief Superintendent Mazuki Mat said that the 4.05pm accident involved the car and a lorry laden with chickens.

He said initial investigation showed that the driver of the Audi, who was heading to Kuala Lumpur from Sungai Petani, had lost control of his car before ramming into the rear side of the lorry.

"The victim's car is believed to have spun several times before it hit the expressway divider on the right lane and hit the lorry which was on the left lane.

"Due to the impact, the Audi driver sustained severe injuries to his head and he was killed on the spot, while the passenger suffered head injuries.

"The lorry driver however escaped with minor injuries. They were taken to the Parit Buntar Hospital for treatment and the deceased was taken for post-mortem," he said when contacted today.

He said police had notified the families over the matter and the post mortem on the deceased would be conducted tonight.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
