this is the result of the elitist society we are in. where the less academically inclined are doomed to low paying jobs. In truly developed countries, they could still be good at skills like plumbing and mechanical repair and they can have a good middle class income. Over here our society refuses to pay a decent wage to them and rather import economic refugees and exploit them to do technical stuff.

it has some sense, but singapore is too much of a rat race and the gahmen doesn't want you to break out of it. a population caught up in the rat race is easier to control.
