Faishal Ibrahim’s Resignation (July 20, 2026)
Positions Stepped Down From
- Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs (appointed Aug 2025, served just over 1 year)
- Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs
- MP for Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC (Kembangan ward)
- Member of the People’s Action Party (PAP)
Background & Circumstances
- About a month before the announcement, the Prime Minister’s Office received an email from a female member of the public regarding her interactions with Faishal, mostly via online messages plus meetings at public event sidelines.
- Both parties later filed mutual harassment allegations, which were referred to police. Investigations, reviewed with the Attorney-General’s Chambers, found no criminal offences by either side.
- However, a separate review concluded his conduct fell below standards required of political office-holders and MPs. Faishal acknowledged this and resigned voluntarily.
His Explanation
- In his letter to PM Lawrence Wong: No physical relationship existed, nor was one intended; he admitted a lapse of judgment and failure to set clear boundaries earlier.
- He said stepping away would let him focus on his family.
- On Facebook: “I am deeply sorry to have let down my residents and supporters… I will not comment further out of respect for my family’s privacy.”
Succession & Arrangements
- Zaqy Mohamad (Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and Defence) takes over as Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs.
- No by-election will be held: the remaining four MPs of Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC (Seah Kian Peng, Goh Pei Ming, Diana Pang, Tin Pei Ling) will cover Kembangan ward duties.
