🫙 Full Details: Marmite Disappears from Singapore Shelves
Latest update: 27 July 2026
📉 Current Situation
Marmite, the iconic British yeast extract spread that has been available in Singapore since colonial times, is no longer stocked by major supermarkets here:
- Shelves at Cold Storage, FairPrice, Sheng Siong and Giant are empty; searches on their websites return no results
- Australian rival Vegemite remains fully available
- Unilever Asia delisted Marmite from its official portfolio effective April 1, 2026, affecting all sizes: 100g, 200g and 410g
❓ Why it’s gone
Two reasons cited in communications:
1. Official customer reply: Unilever Singapore stated it no longer carries the brand here, due to insufficient consumer sales and limited retail distribution. It noted competition for limited shelf space grows fiercer as sales decline.
2. Internal notice: Also cited “continued service challenges… tight capacity caused by unexpected long-term major production line downtime” .
Global context
Between late 2025 and early 2026, Unilever publicly considered selling off Marmite, Bovril and other traditional British brands to streamline its business portfolio.
😕 Reaction & Future
- Fans have expressed disappointment on social media after noticing its absence
- Unilever Singapore has not ruled out a return, saying it “might consider bringing it back in the future”
- FairPrice is exploring alternative sources to import overseas stock independently
- Unilever has not yet issued an official full statement to media; enquiries are pending
📌 About Marmite
- Launched in 1902, made from beer brewing by-products
- Rich in B vitamins, fully vegan
