2020_toyota_corolla_teaser_final_c509159

Toyota has remained pretty quiet about its redesigned Corolla hatchback, but a new teaser shows us a little bit of the design language and lets us in on the fact it will ride on an all-new 12th-generation platform.

The Corolla has been due for a refresh for a while – the Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra are practically space-aged compared to the 2014-era design of the Corolla – even if the face has been updated not long ago.

So for 2020, the four-cylinder’s getting a styling update, plus a bump in performance and economy, delivering 168 horsepower while achieving as much as 5.6 L/100km on the highway, better than the old model in both respects.

We won’t get to see the Corolla with our own eyes in North America until the end of November at the LA auto show, but the Corolla will be revealed long before that at the Guangzhou auto show in China on November 15th.

At the same time, a private media event in California will see the new vehicle shown off to press.

The 2020 Toyota Corolla will ride on Toyota’s scalable platform – the same one that underpins the Prius hybrid, RAV4 and Avalon – which will make the small car lighter and stiffer than the outgoing model.
