According to local media reports, the police said the deceased were aged 26 and 28. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call at 2am for a water rescue incident along the Singapore River near 6 Eu Tong Sen Street. Upon arriving at the scene, SCDF officers found no signs of the persons. Divers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were then deployed to conduct an underwater search. A Remotely-Operated Vehicle (ROV), which uses sonar-imaging equipment to map out underwater terrain, was also used in the search effort. The mens' bodies were eventually retrieved and both were pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic. No foul play is suspected in the incident.
