Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), in collaboration with BlackBerry, has launched Cyber Pathways, a professional cybersecurity certification programme designed to strengthen Malaysia’s pipeline of job-ready cybersecurity talent. The launch marks the first major milestone under BlackBerry and UKM’s multi-year agreement aimed at strengthening cyber resilience across Asean. Announced during a ceremony attended by BlackBerry CEO John Giamatteo and UKM vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Sufian Jusoh, the new 24-week programme features a stackable three-tier structure covering Cyber Protection, Cyber Management and Cyber Security. The programme is designed for recent graduates and professionals seeking to transition into cybersecurity, addressing growing demand for skilled talent in Malaysia’s expanding digital economy. Cyber Pathways aims to develop cyber professionals equipped with industry-recognised certifications, practical competencies and exposure to real-world cybersecurity requirements. Prof. Dr. Sufian said the collaboration reflects a strategic effort between academia and industry to strengthen Malaysia’s cybersecurity workforce and better prepare talent to address evolving cyber threats. “Aligned with the evolving digital landscape, demand for cybersecurity talent continues to grow across industries and critical national services,” he said. “Cyber Pathways helps address this gap while giving participants opportunities to build professional networks and gain direct access to career pathways in one of Malaysia’s most critical sectors,” Prof. Dr. Sufian added.
