Balestier temple appeals for return of missing tiger god statue, CCTV captures old man loitering at altar
A temple in Singapore is appealing for the return of a missing tiger god statue.
According to a Dec. 7, 2025 Facebook post, Rochore Tua Pek Kong Temple (also known as Goh Chor Tua Pek Kong Temple) said the statue was found displaced from the temple in the early morning of Dec. 6.
The temple is located at 249 Balestier Road Singapore, Singapore 329708.
Return statue or face legal action
The temple added that surveillance footage captured an elderly man loitering around the tiger god altar from around 11:48pm on Dec. 5 to 12:15am on Dec. 6.
"We sincerely appeal to the person involved to return the statue immediately and in its original condition, failing which we will resort to legal action and press criminal charges," the post read.
The temple was established in 1847 and is thus a heritage temple, and the tiger god "a revered deity belonging to the community".
"Anyone found to buy or sell the deity statue is not only infringing on the law, it is also being disrespectful to the deity," the post stated.
The temple appealed for anyone who is able to identify the man, to inform him to return the statue, or inform the temple directly.

A man wielding three knives allegedly attacked a group of residents who were singing at the foot of Block 188 Boon Lay Drive.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred on Dec. 6 at around 6:55pm, and allegedly resulted from a staring incident.
A resident told the Chinese media outlet that a group of neighbours were drinking and singing karaoke at the time of the incident.
Sitting along the corridor of her first-floor apartment, she noticed a tall man waiting for a car nearby, accompanied by a woman.
She added that some people noticed the man staring at the group but did not think much of it, as they did not know him.
Three knives
The man then returned 10 minutes later, allegedly holding knives in both his hands and began cursing at the group.
He was holding two knives in his left hand and a chopper in his right, the resident told Shin Min.
The man then questioned her four male friends and appeared to grow more agitated.
The resident tried to get him to calm down, but he suddenly swung the knife at her friend, stabbing him in the back.
The friend tried to defend himself using a plastic chair, but suffered wounds to his arm and back.
The resident then called the police.
Another resident present said he grabbed a bamboo pole to fight the man.
When the man heard they called the police, he dropped the knives and ran away.

Upon their arrival, officers found an injured man, 58, at the void deck of the block. He was subsequently conveyed conscious to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said.
Through follow-up investigations, SPF has identified a 32-year-old man believed to be involved in the case.
