This is precisely how long it takes the average woman to reach orgasm during sex

Last year, it was revealed that women climax a third less than men - and it could be that sex simply isn’t lasting long enough for them to.

Researchers have looked into exactly how long it takes women to orgasm, and discovered that quickies aren’t conducive to reaching one.

The study, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, showed that it takes an average of 13.46 minutes.

Scientists came to that conclusion after asking 645 heterosexual females in longterm relationships - all around the age of 30 - to keep a record over a period of eight weeks.

Times measured ranged from 12.76 minutes to 14.06 minutes, however, almost a fifth of respondents reported that they never reached an orgasm.

Another finding was that most women didn’t climax during penetrative sex - with just 31.4% doing so.

Oral and other forms of sexual activity were discovered to be just as - if not more - important.

Researchers also found that getting on top gives women the most pleasure.

It comes as it was revealed a female Viagra-like drug is fast on its way to being created.

Known as Lybrido, it particularly aims to help those suffering from female sexual dysfunction.

The condition - which can include loss of libido, problems reaching orgasm, and pain during intercourse - was found by a study to affect 40% of women.

It is being created by a Dutch company called Emotional Brain who have been testing out the new drug on 940 female participants.

They have been keeping online diaries about their libido - and so far have reported being able to climax more easily, and have an increased interest in having sex.

However, they have also experienced side-effects such as headaches and flushing on the face and neck.

According to the creators, the pill could give women “one extra orgasm a month” and they hope it will “break taboos” and allow them “to take charge of their bodies”.

Lybrido contains testosterone as well as sildenafil - the same active ingredient in Viagra - to get women in the mood for sex.

The prescription-only drug is designed to be taken three-and-a-half hours before intercourse.

It will also cost £10 a go, come mint-flavoured and coloured pink - in contrast to blue Viagra.

Speaking to The Sun, Professor Eric Claassen, said: “A lot of women are really unhappy. There is an enormous unmet need.

“These women are not seeking help because they want sex every day but because they want a healthy sex life.”
