HONG KONG - APRIL 19: Hong Kong actor Liu Kai-chi celebrates after winning the Best Supporting Actor award for his role on the movie

Hong Kong veteran actor Liu Kai-chi has passed away on Sunday (28 March) from stomach cancer at 66. His agency L&P Entertainment released a statement that his family was by his side when he passed away and that he had “returned to the arms of his heavenly father”.

The two-time Hong Kong Film Awards winner had been in the entertainment business for over 40 years and starred in more than 90 drama series since 1979. Liu has also acted in over 70 movies during his time in showbiz. His past works include Cageman and Beast Stalker, where he won Best Supporting Actor awards for Justice Pao, Infernal Affairs II, and New Police Story.

Liu had reportedly been battling stomach cancer for the past few months, although his death came only a week after reports of his illness emerged.

The actor said that he was “experiencing some discomfort”, and his agency had urged fans not to worry. He was pronounced dead at the Prince of Wales Hospital, in Sha Tin, at 8.32 pm on Sunday.

L&P entertainment thanked the medical staff for taking care of the actor in his final months and urged everyone to give his family space to arrange his wake, stating that “We will share more details after they (the wake) have been confirmed.”

Liu is survived by his wife, former actress Barbara Chan, 60, and their two sons aged 26 and 22.

RIP.

He always played supporting roles (esp. in police themed dramas whereby he's always playing some small fry detective), never got lead roles whatsoever.
