  3. He knocked her out not with his charm but with his arm around her neck. While on a date with a woman, a Singaporean student asked to shoot a TikTok video with her in the stairwell of a carpark. But just as he started filming, he choked her, making her lose consciousness so that he could smell her feet to satisfy his fetish. He lifted her shirt, intending to touch her breasts while she was unconscious, but changed his mind moments before she woke up. The Institute of Technical Education student, 24, on Wednesday (Jan 5) pleaded guilty to a single charge of voluntarily causing hurt and was jailed for eight months. Another charge of outrage of modesty was taken into consideration during sentencing. He cannot be named because of a gag order to protect the identity of the victim. The court heard that he booked a date with the woman, then 37, using a website service in October 2020. Around the same time, he found her on Instagram and contacted her as he was interested in her, but did not tell her he had booked a date, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Norine Tan. During their date on Oct 26, 2020, he said he wanted to record a TikTok video and led her to a level-four staircase landing at carpark 4A of Changi Airport's Terminal 4. He checked that there was no one around at each level. Once they were there, he placed his phone on a fire extinguisher cabinet, pointing the camera towards them and telling her to face the wall. Moments later, he wrapped his arm around her neck and performed a rear naked choke - a martial arts move he learnt from a course some time ago. DPP Tan said: "He decided to choke her until she was unconscious so that he could smell her feet as he had a fetish. The victim struggled for around 15 seconds, trying in vain to grab something to break free, before she became unconscious." He laid her body on the ground and lifted her shirt, wanting to touch her breasts as he felt aroused. He raised the shirt up to her belly button area and decided not to continue. Seconds later, the woman woke up and found that the back of her head was resting on the man's lap. She got up immediately and composed herself before she gathered her things and ran away. She headed towards a car and told the driver that someone was trying to kill her. She called the police and the student surrendered after they contacted him that night. A medical report said she had bruises and pain around her neck. She continued to suffer anxiety and panic attacks months after the assault, and a heart specialist recorded that she was troubled by symptoms of numbness and cold sweating. Seeking nine to 12 months' jail, the prosecution said: "The accused feared for her life in the aftermath and was traumatised. What cannot be denied is how this affected her months after the attack." Defence lawyer Cory Wong said the assault was not premeditated and that the man did not target her from the start. He added that it was difficult to ascertain the incident's psychological impact on the woman without an expert's opinion, and urged for a sentence of not more than four months. District Judge Lim Wen Juin said he inferred that she suffered tangible psychological effects that were serious enough that she saw a doctor. There was also potential harm as choking could lead to death and the man was aware of it, he added. For the offence, the man could have faced a maximum punishment of three years' jail and a fine of $5,000.

  4. A former reality star who made $200,000 (£148,000) from farting in jars has announced her retirement, after she was rushed to hospital for squeezing out one too many. Steph Matto, 31, from Connecticut, recently found herself in A&E with symptoms of a 'heart attack' after experiencing shooting pains in her chest. Concerned doctors performed blood tests and an electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) but later told the 90 Day Fiancé TV star that the symptoms were actually caused by excess gas from her frequent diet of beans, eggs and banana protein shakes. Speaking about the moment she took ill, Steph said: "I thought I was having a stroke and that these were my final moments. I was overdoing it." She began selling her farts in a jar in November last year, after receiving requests on the adult-content site Unfiltrd. Credit: Jam Press The unique product saw her rake in the cash at $1,000 (£740) per jar, though Steph offered a 50 percent discount during the festive period. To keep up with demand – which saw her squeeze out up to 50 jars worth of farts a week – the self-proclaimed 'fartrepreneur' opted for a fibre-high diet, living off beans and eggs. She later added protein shakes to the mix after discovering it made the farts smell worse. Credit: Jam Press Reliving the lead-up to the hospital visit, Steph said: "I remember within one day I had about three protein shakes and a huge bowl of black bean soup. "I could tell that something was not right that evening when I was lying in bed and I could feel a pressure in my stomach moving upward. "It was quite hard to breathe and every time I tried to breathe in I'd feel a pinching sensation around my heart. And that, of course, made my anxiety escalate. "I actually called my friend and asked if they could come over to drive me to the hospital because I thought I was experiencing a heart attack. "I ended up going to the hospital that evening. I didn't tell my doctors about the farting in the jar but I did tell them about my diet. "It was made clear that what I was experiencing wasn't a stroke or heart attack but very intense gas pains. "I was advised to change my diet and to take a gas suppressant medication, which has effectively ended my business." Credit: Jam Press During her two-month venture, reality star Steph worked every day to keep up with demand and says the key to smellier gas is banana protein shakes. Steph said: "I decided to do it on a whim after people requested it a few times. As luck would have it, once I put the jars up for sale they began to sell like hotcakes. "I honestly could not believe the demand. I think a lot of people have this fetish in secret. "I began this venture by eating mostly protein muffins, shakes, and also hard-boiled eggs. Since then I've decided to branch out a little bit and try some new recipes to keep it exciting. "I have been loving black bean salad, onion, ham and pepper omelettes, and I have been making a really great protein smoothie with lots of banana. "I think that certain foods produce better smelling farts, so I usually tend to go with the smoothies as opposed to things such as cabbage and eggs." Credit: Jam Press Despite the financial success, the reception to her unique business venture has been divided. Steph said: "I have a lot of people praising me, calling me a girl boss, telling me that I inspire them to be unashamed of who they are and what they do. "But on the other end I have been getting a ton of negativity. I have even received death threats, people telling me I should end my life, and so on. "I try my best to not react to these people and give them what they want, which is attention. "In this day and age, we need to stop tearing people down for their choices. "Especially if their choices are literally hurting no one." https://www.ladbible.com/news/latest-reality-tv-star-made-70000-in-a-week-selling-her-farts-to-strangers-20211214

  6. When it comes to food, many of us are quick to vouch for the fact that Malaysia’s gastronomic spread is simply second-to-none. After all, one of the perks of having such a diverse melting pot of cultures and shared heritage is in the fact that we can all sample from a myriad of different cuisines, creating a community where flavours truly intermingle. Take Peranakan cuisine, for example, which brings elements of Malay and Chinese cooking into a deliciously unique genre of its own. Malaysian-born Masterchef Ping Coombes nabs Champion of Champions title! And it would seem that the consensus has reached the world stage, after it was just recently announced that Malaysian-born chef Ping Coombes has taken home the crown from Masterchef’s Champion of Champions competition! For those not in the know, Masterchef is a widely popular cooking reality show that pits amateur or home chefs against one another. In the case of Champion of Champions, the television show brought back past winners together to duke it out once more in another test of culinary prowess to ring in the New Year. http://waupost.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/masterchef1.png Source: Metro Those who participated in the special airing of Masterchef UK included 2011 champion Tim Anderson, 2014 champion Ping Coombes, 2017 champion Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed, 2018 champion Kenny Tutt and 2019 champion Irini Tzortzoglou. All were tasked with two challenges: one, to create a dish rooted from memory, and two, to create their best two courses from their repertoire in two hours and 15 minutes. A tasty spread of reinterpreted local dishes bagged her the title Delving deep into her Malaysian heritage, Ping served up a delectable spread that consisted of her own take on claypot chicken that featured Guinea fowl stuffed with sausage and shittake mushroom rice topped with lime, ginger and chili gel, as well as a very high-brow take on ais kacang made with rose-flavoured meringue shards and salted sweet corn mousse topped with coconut shaved ice according to Metro. http://waupost.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/masterchef4.png Source: Masterchef UK The dessert proved so delicious, judge Gregg Wallace even cleared it off his bowl completely! http://waupost.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/masterchef2.png Source: Masterchef UK http://waupost.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/masterchef3.png Source: Masterchef UK Ping, who previously cinched the 2014 Masterchef UK title with her Malaysian dishes, was over the moon when she was announced as the winner of the Champion of Champions special episode. Since winning Masterchef UK in 2014, Ping has gone on to work as a Consultant Chef for the Ping Pan-Asian group, and was also appointed a Malaysia Kitchen Ambassador in 2016, tasked with promoting local cuisine and food culture in the United Kingdom. In 2016, she also published her first cookbook, aptly titled Malaysia. Ipoh-born Ping now runs her own restaurant known as Ping’s Makan Club in Bath, UK, where she also resides.

  7. SINGAPORE - A person's fully vaccinated status will lapse nine months after the last dose of their primary vaccination series, said the Ministry of Health on Wednesday (Jan 5). It added that from Feb 14, Singapore will require those aged 18 and above to get a Covid-19 booster jab to maintain one's fully vaccinated status. Singapore is bracing for a large Omicron wave that could see a peak of 15,000 cases a day in the worst case scenario. Speaking at a press conference, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said the Omicron variant has shown itself to be more transmissible than Delta, and the country has to prepare for a “much bigger infection wave” than was seen with the Delta variant last October. The number of Omicron cases in Singapore has risen, with 1,281 such cases in the past week. Of these, 233 are local cases, which make up 18 per cent of the local cases in the last week, said the Ministry of Health (MOH). At its peak late last year, the Delta variant saw Singapore register about 5,000 cases a day. Omicron cases could exceed this number “by a few times”, Mr Ong noted. “At its peak, Delta infections were doubling at six to eight days. Omicron infections may double in two to three days,” he said. Director of Medical Services Kenneth Mak said a worst case scenario may see Singapore recording as many as 15,000 cases a day at the peak of the Omicron wave, as he urged people to take their booster jabs when it is offered to them. One silver lining is that data out of various countries such as South Africa, the US and Canada has consistently shown that Omicron infections are less severe than Delta cases amongst the vaccinated, and more so amongst those who have received their boosters, said Mr Ong. This is why from Feb 14, the fully vaccinated status for a person who only has had their primary series of vaccination will lapse nine months after their last jab. Mr Ong said: "270 days or nine months after you have taken your second dose of the mRNA (vaccine) or third dose of the Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccine and you have not taken your booster, your full vaccination status will lapse. "This will, among other things, affect your access to vaccination-differentiated venues such as malls, restaurants and libraries."People here will be invited to take their booster jab five months after their second mRNA jab, or after their third dose of the Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccine. Unlike the primary regime, a person is considered fully vaccinated from the same day he receives his booster jab, without a need to factor two weeks' time. "On Feb 14, if your last vaccine dose was taken before 20th May 2021, which is 270 days or nine months ago, your fully vaccinated status will lapse," said Mr Ong. Those who have not yet reached the nine-month expiry by then, or who are medically ineligible for boosters will not be affected. He added that the effective date of the policy has been set "quite awhile from now" to give people the chance to take their booster jabs early. Invitations for boosters have been sent out five months after one has completed their primary vaccination series to facilitate bookings for appointments in the coming weeks, said Mr Ong. For seniors aged 60 and above, invitations to take their booster dose will be sent out a bit earlier, he added. Giving figures on the booster vaccination take-up rate, Associate Professor Mak said that among those aged above 30 who are eligible for their boosters, nearly 70 per cent have received their jabs. The figure was at 89 per cent for eligible seniors aged above 60. The revised policy on who is considered fully vaccinated has the full support of the Expert Committee on Covid-19 Vaccination (EC19V), he added. "We urge as many people as possible who are eligible to come forward and receive their booster vaccinations as soon as possible...(as) this is important to mitigate the risk of waning antibody levels that can occur over time and to boost the vaccine-derived protection against severe infection, reducing the risk of being infected by Delta or Omicron variants," said Prof Mak. He added that Singapore is still seeing Delta infections, and not just Omicron, therefore getting vaccinated and boosted can protect against both variants. "There's no good reason to think that you may skip the booster vaccination simply because you think that Omicron infections are potentially less serious," he added. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/booster-shot-must-be-taken-within-270-days-after-2nd-dose-to-remain-fully-vaccinated

  8. Taiwan’s government is sharing cocktail recipes with the public after it reportedly bought 20,400 bottles of Lithuanian rum bound for China amid a row between Vilnius and Beijing. The state-owned Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor (TTL) said it made the purchase in December to support Lithuania after learning the shipment was going to be blocked by Chinese authorities. “TTL stood up at the right time, purchased the rum and brought it to Taiwan,” the company said in a statement reported by the South China Morning Post. “Lithuania supports us and we support Lithuania – TTL calls for a toast to that.” Lithuania is in an ongoing diplomatic dispute with Beijing, and has been hit with trade and other restrictions since it announced it would establish mutual diplomatic posts with Taiwan. The South China Morning Post said Taiwan’s finance ministry, which wholly owns TTL, and the de facto ambassador to Lithuania, Eric Huang, had learned China was going to reject the shipment, and informed TTL. TTL and the producer of the dark rum, MV Group Productions, have not responded to the claims. However, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Taiwan’s national development council, the parliament’s policy planning agency, posted a list of rum-based cocktails and other recipes and urged people to be ready to buy the product in late January. The post called on people to “support Lithuania”, saying the two countries were very friendly and had helped each other during the pandemic. The Chinese government has for months been applying pressure and blocking trade with Lithuania, outraged over Vilnius allowing the word “Taiwan” to be used in the name of Taipei’s de facto embassy. Taiwan usually uses the word “Taipei” in naming its diplomatic offices. Beijing claims Taiwan as a province and is hypersensitive to any action which appears to support Taiwan’s stance of being a sovereign nation. In recent years Beijing has frequently blocked or restricted imports from countries it is engaged in diplomatic disputes with, including coal, wine, and lobsters from Australia, and pineapples from Taiwan. Taiwan’s government is working to strengthen relationships with friendly nations as it seeks to resist Chinese aggression, and has in the past enthusiastically supported those hit with trade restrictions, urging Taiwanese people to buy up the product.
