    • Video game giant Activision is investigating a hacking campaign that’s targeting players with the goal of stealing their credentials, TechCrunch has learned. At this point, the hackers’ specific goals — apart from stealing passwords for various types of accounts — are unclear. Somehow, the hackers are getting malware on the victim’s computers and then stealing passwords for their gaming accounts and crypto wallets, among others, according to sources. A person with knowledge of the incidents, who asked to remain anonymous because they weren’t authorized to speak to the press, said that people at Activision Blizzard are investigating, trying to “help remove the malware,” and “working on identifying and remediating player accounts for anyone affected.”   “There is not enough data yet on how [the malware] is spreading,” the person said. “It could be only affecting folks who have third party tools installed.”   Activision spokesperson Delaney Simmons told TechCrunch that the company is aware of “claims that some player credentials across the broader industry could be compromised from malware from downloading or using unauthorized software,” and that the company servers “remain secure and uncompromised.” The malware campaign appears to have been uncovered first by Zeebler, a person who develops and sells cheating software for the popular first-person shooter Call of Duty. On Wednesday, in the official channel for the PhantomOverlay cheat provider, Zeebler said that hackers were targeting gamers — some who use cheats — to steal their usernames and passwords.   Zeebler described the effort as an “infostealer malware campaign,” where malware designed as legitimate-looking software unknowingly installed by the victim surreptitiously steals their usernames and passwords. Zeebler told TechCrunch that he found out about the hacking campaign when a PhantomOverlay customer had their account for the cheat software stolen. At that point, Zeebler added, he started investigating and was able to find the database of stolen credentials that the hackers were amassing. After that, Zeebler said he contacted Activision Blizzard as well as other cheat makers, whose users appear to be affected. TechCrunch obtained a sample of the allegedly stolen logins, and verified that a portion of the data are genuine credentials. It’s not clear how old or recent the data is.   At this point, there are no reasons to believe regular players of Activision games are at risk, just those who use third-party apps such as cheats. In any case, as Activision’s Simmons told TechCrunch, users who suspect they may have been compromised can change their password and activate two-factor authentication.   https://techcrunch.com/2024/03/28/activision-says-its-investigating-password-stealing-malware-targeting-game-players/
    • X is living up to its name. The platform, formerly Twitter, is working on an addition to its Communities feature that would let X users create groups for X-rated material, according to app researchers. Researcher Daniel Buchuk of Watchful, which analyzes app development and performance, found the feature through reverse engineering the app. He shared screenshots with TechCrunch exclusively that show what X’s NSFW Communities could look like.   Image Credits: Watchful (opens in a new window)   An independent researcher, Nima Owji, also spotted the feature in development last month.     Twitter introduced its Communities feature in 2021. It allows users to post within smaller, interest-based subgroups, like a subreddit. When Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022, he enacted sweeping changes to the app’s brand identity, verification systems and creator monetization efforts — but some features, like Communities, remained stagnant.   X also hasn’t taken much initiative in working with its sizable population of online sex workers, who turn to the platform — one of few that allows adult content — to promote their paid offerings from sites like OnlyFans. “Twitter really is the primary advertising venue at this point for sex workers,” Dr. Olivia Snow, a dominatrix and researcher at UCLA’s Center for Critical Internet Inquiry, told TechCrunch last year. So, the platform’s more lenient policy on adult content is critical for online sex workers to grow their businesses. X did not reply to a request for comment.   Adult creators are allowed to post explicit content on X, though they can’t monetize it on the platform. But if they can create their own fan communities, this feature could give creators a more direct way to reach their audience. Even though X seems to be working on this NSFW Communities feature, that doesn’t mean it’ll come to fruition. Shortly after Musk took control of the platform, reverse engineers uncovered possible features that would allow creators to monetize paywalled videos or charge money for DMs. These mock-ups looked similar to features on OnlyFans, which could be a strategy for Musk to recoup his $44 billion investment: monetizing “X videos.” But as it stands, X doesn’t seem poised to reverse its stance on adult content monetization. Even before Musk’s takeover, Twitter had been working on an OnlyFans competitor, but it was shelved because Twitter could not adequately detect non-consensual content and child sexual exploitation (CSE). But X says it’s mitigating that dire problem. According to X CEO Linda Yaccarino, in 2023 the platform suspended 12.4 million accounts for violating child sexual exploitation policies, up from 2.3 million accounts removed in 2022.   https://techcrunch.com/2024/03/28/x-is-testing-nsfw-adult-communities-according-to-screenshots/
    • Dignity Kitchen, a social enterprise under Project Dignity in Boon Keng, faces a setback after suspected arson damages its premises. Now, they’re seeking donations to rebuild and sustain their vital ‘Pay-It-Forward’ senior meal program.     SINGAPORE: Following a recent fire incident that ravaged its premises, Dignity Kitchen is embarking on a fundraising campaign to ensure the continuation of its vital mission: providing free meals to seniors in need. Last month, Dignity Kitchen, a restaurant operating under Project Dignity, located in Boon Keng, encountered a setback when its premises were damaged in what was suspected to be an act of mischief. The fire that occurred on 13 February inflicted severe damage to the facility, prompting the launch of a campaign to raise funds for restoration works. With a goal of S$200,000 (approximately US$150,000) the social enterprise food court is determined to refurbish its premises and continue its mission. Despite the setback, Dignity Kitchen remains committed to its core values. Dignity Kitchen appeals for support to sustain senior meal program Alongside efforts to rebuild, the restaurant is appealing for donations to support its ‘Pay-It-Forward’ program, which provides free meals to seniors on weekdays. Recognizing the challenges faced by the elderly, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Dignity Kitchen aims to ensure that no one in the community goes hungry or feels isolated. The ‘Pay-It-Forward’ initiative, launched by Project Dignity, the social enterprise behind Dignity Kitchen, has been instrumental in providing essential support to seniors.   By distributing meals every Monday to Friday at 4pm, the program not only addresses food insecurity but also encourages seniors to remain active and socially engaged. Long queues would frequently be seen outside its premises on Boon Keng Road as people waited to collect their food. “Rain or shine, the warm food will be distributed daily. Our staff and team of volunteers will be on the ground during distribution to ensure safe distancing measures are in check.” Despite the recent closure due to the fire incident, Project Dignity is determined to keep the program running, but it requires the public’s assistance to do so. Since its inception, the ‘Pay-It-Forward’ program has grown significantly, thanks to the generosity of sponsors and volunteers. “We started with 50 packets of meals and have grown to almost 100 packets,” said Project Dignity. However, with funds running low and the need for restoration following the fire, Project Dignity is appealing for urgent support. The ongoing Give.Asia campaign, aimed at raising S$30,000 (US$22,300), has garnered significant traction, but additional contributions are crucial to sustain the program’s operations.   At the time of writing (27 Mar), the Give.Asia campaign has managed to raise about S$24,700 (US$18,300) out of its S$30,000 goal. With a commitment to continue cooking and distributing healthy meals for as long as possible, Project Dignity is calling on the community to rally behind its cause. To contribute to the ‘Pay-It-Forward’ initiative and support Dignity Kitchen’s restoration efforts, individuals can visit its Give.Asia fundraising page and make a donation. “Your generosity of any amount will go towards this worthy cause. SUPPORT SOCIAL ENTERPRISE!” the Project Dignity stated.   https://gutzy.asia/2024/03/27/dignity-kitchen-launches-fundraising-campaign-to-support-senior-meal-program/
    • The Left Hand Path ‘Irish Heiress’ psychic witch we should be aware of   BANGOR, Maine – Let’s begin by noting that this story, does not appear to be about our community and then take a serious turn. Once again, the story impacts our community by how it is framed and the actions taken by the alleged perpetrator of these scams. Marianne Smyth has been found guilty of grand theft, asserting that her family excluded her from an inheritance. She now confronts extradition to Northern Ireland for distinct allegations of fraud and theft. Smyth is currently being held in a Maine jail, awaiting a hearing to determine her extradition to the United Kingdom regarding a scam dating back over 15 years in Northern Ireland. Smyth, 54, is an American. She was born in Bangor, Maine. She stands accused of embezzling over $170,000 from at least five victims between 2008 and 2010 in Northern Ireland, where, as per legal documents, arrest warrants were issued for her in 2021, as per legal documents. Johnathan Walton was one of Smyth’s alleged victims, allegedly fleeced of US$100,000 and Smyth was convicted of stealing US$63,000 from him. Walton is a reality television producer whose credits include “Shark Tank: and American Ninja Warrior.” Walton started a podcast in 2021 called “Queen of the Con,” to warn others about Smyth. “She’s a master of disguise completely changing her appearance and her grift to suit each mark,” Walton said. He noted that Smyth always dressed in designer clothes, and she needed the money to post bail and for a frozen bank account. Walton also added that Smyth told him she was waiting for her inheritance from her wealthy family in Ireland whom she had been battling and was now awaiting a sum of about US$ 7 million (€ 5 million). In an interview with the Associated Press, Walton said that Smyth bought him expensive dinners and luxury vacations during the time they grew close to each other while living in Los Angeles.  Her story fell apart when Smyth was arrested and later convicted with jail time, for stealing US$200,000 from a job at a luxury travel agency. Image by Marine 69-71 CC BY-SA 4.0   But there’s more, Walton has received tips about Smyth’s activities and has been documenting them.  These tips detailed Smyth’s activities in a fictitious charity purportedly for Ukraine, along with other fabrications that she served as an envoy for Satan, that she is a witch, a hockey coach, a cancer patient. She also claimed to be best friends with Jennifer Aniston while also frequently altering both her name and appearance. Heather Sladinski was reportedly scammed of $20,000 for “psychic readings, fake life coach sessions and cult-like retreats that included rituals, breathing exercises and yoga.”  Sladinski said that Smyth was also prepared to do a ritual involving a chicken on behalf of Sladinski so she could get back her boyfriend, who, it so happens also had also secured a restraining order against her. Sladinski said that Smyth was witty, clever and, the story notes, “had credentials and other documents to back up her claims.”  Smyth even allegedly stole her daughter’s identity to rent an apartment in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Smyth registered a business in Maine called Satan’s Eye of the Storm LLC, incorporated in Kennebunk. Maine Bureau of Corporation – Ratan’s Eye of the Storm registry   Under then LuciaBelia via her website, she writes: She appears to have a second website, luciabelia.com. She also wrote a book called Eastern Star Rising: How Satan’s Eye of the Storm Was Created.  On Amazon, she writes she is a “certified INLP Hypnotherapist and practicing life coach. She works with clients through shadow work.” The book describes “LuciaBelia’s journey of healing from past trauma and mastering the Left-Hand Path. She accomplished this feat through hard work and 18 hour days of focus, determination and working with Magick as an extension of herself relentlessly using her 30 years of experience with Right Hand Path and energy healing. The path to ascension includes self-initiation, self-deification, and shadow work. It is a long, arduous journey.” She also appears to have an Etsy shop, a YouTube Channel, and another on Tiktok as well as Instagram, Facebook, and even LinkedIn.  She offers readings, rituals for hire, and a range of spiritual and alternative psychotherapy services. Lucia Belia/Smyth book via Amazon   On Etsy,  Smyth as LuciaBelia responded to  an accusation: Smyth was apprehended by U.S. Marshalls last month in Bingham, Maine on February 23, 2024.  She was denied bail on March 24, 2024. Her extradition hearing is set for April 17. She faces up to 80 years in jail in Northern Ireland. The story has been picked up by media worldwide meaning that Smyth may have more victims she is not even aware of. On her website, Smyth writes: Walton said. “People like Marianne have wrecked people’s lives, and I am really hopeful she’s going to see justice.”   https://wildhunt.org/2024/03/the-left-hand-path-irish-heiress-psychic-witch-we-should-be-aware-of.html
    • 2 customers die after eating char kway teow at Malaysian vegetarian restaurant in Taipei Two customers died from suspected food poisoning after eating char kway teow at a Malaysian restaurant in Taiwan. Nine others who dined there during the same period also fell ill with gastric symptoms, such as diarrhoea and vomiting. The vegetarian chain has been ordered to close all its outlets in Taipei while investigations are underway. Men die after eating char kway teow at vegetarian restaurant In a statement issued by the Taipei Department of Health, the victims were identified as two men, a 39-year-old and a 66-year-old. Both victims had eaten at Polam Kopitiam in Taipei’s Xinyi District last week. Source: Polam Kopitiam on Facebook   The younger victim reportedly dined at the restaurant with his colleague last Friday (22 March) afternoon and suffered vomiting, abdominal pain, and heart palpitations later that night. He sought medical treatment the following evening but eventually died from kidney failure, Taipei Times reported. His colleague suffered minor food poisoning but was not in danger of losing their life. According to Focus Taiwan, the older victim dined at Polam Kopitiam on 19 March and died on Wednesday (27 March). Taipei health authorities confirmed that 11 people who ate at the restaurant between 19 March and 22 March had experienced gastric symptoms.   The patients had one thing in common — they reportedly consumed char kway teow. Restaurant ordered to close all Taipei outlets During an inspection of the restaurant premises, officers from the Taipei Department of Health found several issues: Cockroach droppings on dishes Knives placed on the counter Failure to provide employee health records The authorities also took samples of ingredients with a high risk of contamination. These include cabbage, noodles, and soya sauce. The results of the tests will be available in two weeks’ time. Meanwhile, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an said that bacteria commonly associated with food poisoning were not detected during the food sample testing of the restaurant.
